Pain Management and Relief for Repetitive Motion Injuries

pain management for repetitive motion injuries.jpgAt 34th Street Chiropractic and Wellness some of the most frequent causes of pain treated by our chiropractor are repetitive motion injuries. Although carpal tunnel syndrome is the most well-known, these injuries to the musculoskeletal and nervous system can occur in many different parts of the body. They are usually caused by repetitive tasks or continually holding body parts in awkward positions. Some activities for which patients seek our pain management services include computer work, hairstyling, playing musical instruments, construction work, or other activities which are repeated many times daily. Symptoms may include intense pain in areas affected by the repetitive task, weakness, and lack of endurance.

Of course, the best treatment for back pain, neck pain, arm or wrist pain caused by any type of repetitive injury is rest or less time spent involved in the particular activity that is causing pain; however, for many people this is simply not practical because the aggravating activity may be a necessary part of their job. There are ergonomic chairs, keyboards and other appliances which may provide some added support but, in extreme cases, patients come to our Midtown West Manhattan office for help.

Pain Management for Repetitive Strain

After a thorough initial examination, there are many types of treatment therapies our chiropractor may recommend to help reduce the pain associated with repetitive injuries in Midtown West Manhattan patients. Chiropractic manipulations and spinal adjustments to alleviate pain in the back or neck may be implemented. Or massage therapy to loosen stressed muscles and restore the flow of oxygen-rich blood may be recommended. Active Release Technique (ART), a movement-based massage therapy, may be used to soothe muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Based on your individual situation he may also recommend a course of corrective exercises, strength training and chiropractic wellness care to build strength and minimize damage.
